Prayers and hopes for the Lambeth Conference

Through our prayer journey for the Lambeth Conference, we’ll share prayers and hopes for the Anglican Communion from across the globe.

It’s my prayer that, inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Lambeth Conference will reinvigorate the Communion with the vision and resources to bring the transforming love of Jesus Christ to every level of society across the world.

It will be a time of addressing hurts and concerns; of deepening existing relationships and building new ones; of grappling with issues that face the Church and the world. We will listen to each other; we will seek God’s wisdom to find ways to walk together; we will build each other up as leaders.

Archbishop Justin Welby

The Conference theme reminds us that the Church neither exists alone, nor does it exist for itself. It exists for and through mission.

God is busy reconciling the world to the divine, always inviting us to reach out beyond the confines of our stained-glass windows to minister to a world longing for God’s love, comfort and embrace.

As Anglicans, we want to say to the world: we are here for you as bridge-builders, working for peace, addressing social needs and - acknowledging our brokenness - doing all we can to rebuild trust and help people to grow into who God wants them to be.

Archbishop Thabo Makgoba
South African Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town and Chair of the Lambeth Conference Design Group

We are really looking forward to the Lambeth Conference, which will bring a unique opportunity for Bishops and spouses together to listen, learn, share, pray and grow together across so many cultures, languages and traditions.

Joining together in a Journey of Prayer in the run up to the Conference is an essential part of our preparation not least as we seek to ensure that our time together is fruitful for the world, for the church and for ourselves.
