Media/Press Application Form for Lambeth Conference Now Available

The Lambeth Conference, will be held in Canterbury, England from 20 July to 4 August, 2008. The application form is now available for those seeking media accreditation. It is our understanding that there will be limited accommodation available through the University of Kent. There will be a professionally maintained press centre on the campus.

Launch of Lambeth Conference 2008

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams today launched the official programme for Lambeth Conference 2008 Equipping Bishops for Mission at Lambeth Palace. Joining Dr Williams on the panel were Archbishop Ellison Pogo (Archbishop of Melanesia and Chairman of the Design Group) and Archbishop Ian Ernest (Archbishop of the Province of the Indian Ocean). Mrs Jane Williams outlined the plans for the Spouses’ Conference which is being held alongside the bishops’ conference. Jane Williams was joined by Margaret Sentamu. 30 bishops from 17 provinces around the Anglican Communion also joined the press conference.

In relation to the Times report of 29th June that 'Gene Robinson is to be invited to the Lambeth Conference of the Anglican Church next summer' it should be noted that there is no change to the Archbishop of Canterbury's decision not to invite the Bishop of New Hampshire to the conference as a participating bishop; it is still being explored whether Bishop Robinson might attend in another status, but no invitation has been issued

First invitations to 'reflective and learning-based' Lambeth Conference go out

The first invitations for the 2008 Lambeth Conference, to be held in Canterbury next summer, are being sent out today by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams. 'We want Jesus', and this is bound to be at the heart of our Advent hope.  We want to see Jesus in our own lives, forgiving, challenging, liberating, transfiguring.  We want to see Jesus in our Church, reconciling, renewing.  We want to see Jesus in our world, healing, feeding, overcoming fear.

Dates for 2008 Lambeth Conference announced by Archbishop of Canterbury

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd Rowan Williams has officially announced the Lambeth Conference dates in an Advent Letter to the 38 primates around the world. Archbishop Williams, at whose invitation the bishops come to the Conference, outlined his hopes for this global meeting of Anglican bishops. He spoke of the Conference as an opportunity for "individual Christian pastors to meet Jesus afresh, for our Church to be renewed in mission, for the world to hear good news."
