Lambeth Conference 2008 Blog

58 weeks to go!

As visits to Canterbury become more and more frequent, so the hour-and-a-half train journey from central London into Kent becomes less and less enjoyable.(The London location of our office is near Lambeth Palace, where most of the Archbishop of Canterbury's staff work, but miles away from Canterbury, the location of the Lambeth Conference. The Archbishop lives in London sometimes and in Canterbury sometimes. The Lambeth Conference is named after his London residence but takes place in Canterbury. Simple.)

Anyway, the work goes on.

Sue is in Canterbury for some of this and next week. She's mainly there to speak to wives of clergymen in the diocese. Local people are crucial in staging the Lambeth and Spouses Conferences, so it's important that we keep in touch with various Kent groups. David and I go to Cantebury fairly regularly.

Stephen Lyon, from the Church of England's Partnership for World Mission, and I also visited Gatwick Airport last week to discuss the welcome effort that will need to go on there in the days leading up to the Conference. We're both working on the pre-Lambeth Conference Hospitality Initiative, which we hope every bishop and spouses will be able to take part in.
